I have put together a wellness checklist of 15 items that I use to try and combat the flu season. This season is something that hits every household, so I am trying to help you reduce the impact it has on everyone.
This is a list of 15 items that I use to help reduce the cold symptoms and hopefully reduce the number of days it brings you and the family down. While I can't say that it is completely fool proof or definitely going to prevent colds, I hope that it helps reduce its impact.
I spray Glen 20 down a couple of times a day to try and kill any of the air bourne germs hanging around.
2. Thieves Household Cleaner (diluted into everyday spray and wipe)
This is a cleaner concentrate that I use in place of any spray and wipe from the grocery store. It is all natural ingredients and no harsh chemicals. I love it because it is way cheaper than continually buying a pre-made spray from the grocery store and any way to save a penny is a win in my books. You only use a capful of the cleaner to every 600ml of water. And it is safe around kids!
Buying the powder to make your own is just way cheaper.
The Madura brand is probably the best, but any green tea will do! I usually drink 3 a day when I am not feeling great. Best to have with food too.
A great herbal tea that helps combat sore throats, inflamed throats and cold symptoms. And it tastes nice and sweet.
6. Lemons
A great way to spice up some ordinary water! Lemons are just great all round for cold symptoms.
Tumeric acts as a natural anti-inflammatory and I use it a little in cooking with stirfry dishes or even pasta just to give it that little immune boost.
Great natural medicine to help combat cold and flu symptoms without using heavy medications on kids.
9. Bananas
Bananas contain fiber, potassium, folate, and antioxidants, such as vitamin C which are all helpful when combatting a cold.
10. Water Bottle
To help you keep track of the quantity of water you are drinking! And if you're like me and can't resist a coffee, then you need to make up for it in water!
I use Peppermint like you would any Vicks product (but definitely not direct to skin unless it is diluted). I will put a couple of drops in the shower to help steam it and clear the nose or in a diffuser. Sometimes, when the kids don't want to take medication, I will use Peppermint oil and just wave it underneath their nose so they can breathe it in, but not touch them. The menthol in it helps to clear up runny and blocked noses.
Thieves® essential oil is a powerful combination of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary essential oils. I use this oil generally in diffusers to fill the room with an amazing smelling warm scent. I also have a diluted version that I use basically like Vicks on my neck and wrists to help clear up my sinuses.
Lemon essential oil is cold-pressed from the rinds of lemons. It is great to also add to drinks to spice it up a little.
A great source of Vitamin C and breaks up the tea and water.
This is basically the liquid version of Thieves oil.
These are just some of the tools in my arsenal to help my family overcome the cold and flu symptoms. It doesn't necessarily stop everything, but it does help reduce the impact it has.
Lots of hot showers to steam up the sinuses, and very frequent bedding changes so that everyone isn't sleeping in snot (gross, I know). I know that changing bedding sucks, but it really does help not to spread germs and hopefully reduces the length of time the family has cold symptoms.
